Do I really need a yoga mat?
I just started doing yoga at home. I have been using a yoga mat and I have no carpet. Does not bother me at all when I do yoga and I have no problems with slippage. I used a towel the first time but was slippery and distraction. I have no money nor do I have enough to buy a yoga mat in the short term.
A yoga mat, would probably make things more comfortable for you, but it is a necessity. Since it sounds like you doing it on a hard surface, you probably want something below you to be a little more comfortable. Since the towel was slippery, you could always try use some heavy duty tape to keep it close. But it seems that you're doing fine without it so just do what feels best for you.
